All children will leave GWPA with the skills and knowledge to keep themselves healthy and safe in the real world and online.
Relationships and Health Education is designed to equip your child to make informed decisions about their wellbeing, health and relationships as well as preparing them for successful adult life. To embrace the challenges of creating a happy and successful adult life, pupils need knowledge that will enable them to make informed decisions about their wellbeing, health and relationships and to build their self-efficacy. Pupils can also put this knowledge into practice as they develop the capacity to make sound decisions when facing risks, challenges and complex contexts. Everyone faces difficult situations in their lives. These subjects can support young people to develop resilience, to know how and when to ask for help, and to know where to access support.
Health education gives our children the information they need to make good decisions about their own health and well-being, to recognise issues in themselves and others, and to seek support as early as possible when issues arise.
Our RHSE curriculum is taught using Cambridgeshire Primary Personal Development Program which covers the strands Myself and My Relationships, Healthy and Safer Lifestyles, Citizenship and Economic Wellbeing. There are also enrichment units on topics such as Body Image and E-safety.
At Great Wakering Primary Academy SMSC and British Values are threaded throughout the whole curriculum, however, areas will be taught more explicitly through RHSE.
Every class from EYFS to Year 6 has dedicated weekly RHSE sessions taught by the class teacher
RHSE is taught using the Cambridgeshire Primary Personal Development Program, alongside this we use the Framework for RHSE and Citizenship at KS1 and KS2.
Ground rules are set to ensure that pupils discuss topics with respect and listen to and respect the views of others.
Each class is expected to have a dedicated short circle time session where any rising class issues can be discussed or games and discussion had to encourage listening and respect for others’ views.
