ChOfsted
As part of our commitment to continually develop the school, we offer the children in Years 3-6 the opportunity to become a member of our ChOfsted team (Children’s Ofsted). ChOfsted is made up of a small group of pupil leaders who work alongside the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and use the Ofsted inspection guidelines to make judgements about our school and how it can be improved.
We look for children who:
Are interested in making our school the best it can be
Are willing and eager to talk to members of SLT in small groups and visitors to the school about our school
Are interested in seeing how lessons are taught
Are willing to share the ideas they have seen, heard or thought of with SLT.
The school’s ChOfsted team are given a range of tasks to complete usually over a half term. They monitor curriculum subjects such as Maths and spelling by observing and discussing with fellow pupils the learning across the school. We ask the children to look for the manipulatives and the use of pictures & sounds in the classroom given in lessons to support the children’s learning. This feedback from the children helps towards the school development priority of children retaining, embedding and applying knowledge.
The ChOfsted team are also tasked with looking at learning behaviours and teaching across the school, focusing on Talk for Change sessions, Maths, History, Science, English writing, Geography and Music.
We also ask the children to look at social behaviours around the school, not just within lessons but when moving about the school, break times and lunch times. Their focus is specifically respect and tolerance towards each other. They will speak with children about safeguarding in the school but through a child’s lens – how children treat their friends, how safe they feel at school, learning that has taken place around being safe, being respectful, relationships with friends etc… (see monitoring overviews by month for further detail).
