RE
RE
All children will demonstrate respect and understanding towards the religions and beliefs of others.
At Great Wakering Primary Academy we use the Saffron Academy Trust RE scheme that meets the requirements of the SACRE Essex agreed syllabus for religious education.
In this syllabus, RE is rooted in three key disciplines or disciplinary fields. These are theology, philosophy and the human/social sciences. They are taught through three lenses: Theology, Philosophy and Human/Social Sciences.
Theology requires pupils to think like theologians, or to look at concepts through a theological lens. Pupils will explore questions and answers that arise from inside religions and worldviews.
Philosophy requires pupils to think like philosophers by exploring questions and answers raised through considering the nature of knowledge, existence and morality.
Through the last lens, pupils will explore questions and answers raised in relation to the impact of religions and worldviews on people and their lives.
RE contributes to pupils’ personal development and well-being and to community cohesion by promoting mutual respect and tolerance in a diverse society. Exploring the concepts of religion and belief and their roles in the spiritual, moral and cultural lives of people in a diverse society helps individuals develop moral awareness and social understanding.
Key Stage One and Key Stage Two children are taught RE following the Saffron Academy RE scheme in line with the SACRE Essex syllabus.
In EYFS, RE is planned and incorporated into the seven areas of learning.
In EYFS, RE is about knowing who you are, where you belong and the things that are important in your life.
Time for collective worship is also planned for during assembly time or within class.
